What Does Jude Most Want You to See?
Jude most wants you to see not merely that “false teachers are evil,” but why the truth must be earnestly contended for and held fast.
Once the truth is distorted, grace will be misused, holiness will be despised, the authority of the Lord will be denied, and the community will be corrupted.
At the same time, Jude wants you to see that the truly godly response is not merely anger and condemning others. You must first be built up in the faith, pray in the Holy Spirit, keep yourself in the love of God, and wisely show mercy and restore those who have been affected.
Finally, Jude tells you that spiritual warfare is ultimately not won because people are strong enough in themselves, but because of God’s keeping. You certainly need watchfulness, discernment, and perseverance. But your true security is not that you never shake; it is that God is able to keep you from falling.
About “Earnestly Contending” in My Life
In today’s postmodern age, where people emphasize diversity, tolerance, and the idea that there is no absolute truth, how do I respond when someone tries to rewrite the clear biblical boundaries concerning sin, salvation, and morality in order to fit the trends of the world?
Do I choose silence and compromise in order to be a politically correct, trouble-free “nice person”?
Or do I have the courage, with love and wisdom, to stand up and speak for “the faith which was once delivered unto the saints”?
About Guarding Against “Using Grace as an Excuse for Indulgence”
What Jude hates most is those who “turn the grace of our God into lasciviousness.”
As I reflect on my own heart, am I also subconsciously playing with fire by using God’s love and grace?
For example, do I think, “God is full of mercy anyway, so I can indulge a little and sin first; I can just confess later”?
Can I recover reverence for God’s holy character?
About Practicing the Four Steps of Spiritual Defense
Facing the impact of massive amounts of information every day, how can I keep my spiritual life from falling?
Am I willing to practice the golden rule Jude gives in verses 20–21:
Read Scripture daily, building myself up on the most holy faith.
Entrust myself deeply to God, praying in the Holy Spirit.
Meditate on the Lord’s love, keeping myself in the love of God.
Hope for the future, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.
About Treasuring the Support That Makes Us Stand Blameless
When you face your own weakness, failure, and the overwhelming temptations of this world, can you return to the stunning doxology at the end of Jude?
“Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy…”
Do I believe that this God is still able to keep me from falling today?
