What Does Mark Most Want You to See?
Mark most wants you to see not merely that Jesus is powerful, but who Jesus truly is.
He is the Son of God. He is the Lord with authority. He is also the Servant who gives His life. If you see His power but do not understand why He goes to the cross, you have not truly understood this Gospel.
At the same time, Mark wants you to see that true disciples are not people who only want to follow Jesus to watch miracles, receive benefits, and enjoy glory. True disciples are those who are willing to learn His way, accept His teaching about self-denial, service, and the cross.
This Gospel continually challenges us:
Are you willing to follow Jesus according to His way, instead of trying to use Him according to your own way?
Finally, Mark tells us that God’s kingdom is not established by human strength and dominance, but through the Son of God serving and giving His life. True victory does not avoid suffering; it passes through the cross into resurrection.
Jesus, though He is the Son of God, willingly became a servant, washed His disciples’ feet, and even gave His life. As I reflect on my life and church life, do I come with the attitude, “I am here to be served and respected,” or with a servant’s heart that asks, “What can I do for those around me?”
When I see Peter confidently making promises and then weakly denying the Lord three times, do I see my own reflection in him? Do I believe that even if I have failed like Peter, the risen Jesus, who specifically said, “go your way, tell his disciples and Peter,” is still willing to receive me and use me again?
When the disciples were terrified in the storm while Jesus slept in the back of the boat, they asked Him:
“Master, carest thou not that we perish?”
When sudden crises and storms come into my life, do I also doubt God’s love in the same way? Can I learn to cry out to Jesus and experience the peace of His command:
“Peace, be still”?
About Following the Lord “Immediately”
When the Lord Jesus calls or moves my heart, do I respond like the disciples, who immediately left their nets and followed Him? Or do I keep delaying, watching, and using excuses, wasting life in unnecessary hesitation?
